12 Great Nerf Gun & Foam Ammo Storage Ideas
Storing one’s Nerf gun collection can be either a source of pride, as seen with the Wall-mounted Pegboard, or practicality, as seen with the Outdoor Toy Box.
The choice of where to store your gel and foam blasters comes down to the available space on hand, as well as your preference.
Remember though, always remove the Nerf darts and high-impact foam balls from their respective weapons when storing. This goes for all types of Nerf gear.

Nerf Elite Blaster Rack
The Nerf Elite Blaster Rack is a great way to store and organize your arsenal of blasters. With its many hooks, rail mounts, shelves, and drawers, this rack can carry up to 20 blasters of all sizes and shapes. This rack will keep your NERF equipment neat and tidy, ensuring that you’ll enter your next Nerf War armed to the teeth.
Plus, it’s made by Nerf, so they’ve built it with Nerf guns in mind. As Hasbro says, “It’s Nerf, or nothing.”

Over-the-Door Storage
If we’re being honest, over-the-door storage is probably not a viable option for the dining room or guest room in your house. Like most good Nerf Gun storage ideas, this one is getting relegated to the kids room or the basement.
Still, it’s a viable option that is probably better suited for dart storage. An over-the-door storage system is a great makeshift gun rack for Nerf Pistols. You could even toss Mr. Beast’s Snub Nose Nerf Uzi in the pockets.
We don’t recommend over-the-door storage for Nerf Machine Guns or Sniper Rifles. They’re simply too big.
Product Dimensions
One thing to consider is how much weight your over-the-door storage can hold. You can get away with storing hundreds of Nerf Gun Darts (Ultra Darts and Elite Darts), but heavy Nerf Blasters aren’t going to hold up for very long.
- 5.12 (D) x 13.78 (W) x 49.6 (H) inches
Outdoor Toy Box
Throughout Nerf’s 60+ year history, the outdoor toy box has been the MOST likely place to find your gear. Because it’s a no-brainer.
- It encourages kids to get outside.
- It keeps the inside of the house less messy.
- It’s durable and get take the bumps and bruises of playtime
It’s the original locale in our long list of Nerf Gun storage ideas. They’re great for Nerf, great for sporting goods, and great for general toy storage.
An A+ option for parents, but not so much for the avid Nerf collector.
Product Dimensions
We prefer a toy box in the range of 120 gallon capacity. That would generally come with the dimensions below. You should choose one that fits your needs and the space available.
- 56.3"L x 26.6"W x 23.8"H
Rolling Storage Cart
There are two types of rolling storage carts that can be used to store toys.
The first is the type you’d see in a kitchen - like the one above. This type is usually built with wire rack drawers with open tops that slide out and usually has a flat surface on top. Small arms and ammo would be best for this type. Especially since the flat top can serve as a repair bench of sorts.
The second rolling storage cart type is the bulk plastic bins that get used for heavy-duty shipping and travel. There more of a crate than cart. These are great for transporting your Nerf equipment to the local park or playground.
Standing Cabinet
A free standing indoor cabinet is a great option for Nerf storage. A good one will have enough space for everything, including your Fortnite Shotgun, your Nerf N-Strike Blazin Bow, and all of the ammo one would need to host their own domestic Nerf War.
You could get one on wheels, but that feels like overkill.
Product Dimensions
Below is just an average dimension for a free standing cabinet. Choose the size and shape that works best for the place you intend to put it.
- 70.86" H x 31.5" W x 15.75" D
Storage Chest with Drawers
Also known as an organizer, these are best the family playroom. They’re probably best for the average family that has a few Nerf guns, not the collector. Better still is that you can put a TV on top and whatever else you need in them, like coloring books and the Nintendo Switch.
Product Dimensions
The 5-drawer model is roughly the size below.
- 11.8"D x 39.4"W x 21.7"H
Storage Bag
Heavy duty storage bags can keep all of your Nerf Guns & Accessories together. No hacks, no workarounds, just a simple storage solution that is portable. Toss a few Nerf Shotguns in here when you're on your way to a foam skirmish and you're good to go.
Also, wouldn't it make you feel just a little bit like Neo & Trinity in The Matrix to pull your Nerf Guns outta these bags?!
Storage Bin
Parents have been stashing Nerf toys in storage bins, totes and tubs for years. Some fit in closets, some rest on shelves, most are stackable. It’s really an ideal storage system for kids’ Nerf guns because you can label the outside and get them out of sight and out of mind, preferably in the playroom or the basement.
What’s more, if you’re in an area where basements get a bit damp, a storage tote with a locking lid will keep the insides free of moisture.
Product Dimensions
A 53-liter, durable piece of tote hardware, the Brute from Rubbermaid is a storage bin that will last a lifetime or two.
- 16.75"L x 10.5"W x 24.5"H
Tool Rack Organizer
Functional? Yes. Elegant? Not so much.
A Tool Rack Organizer can hold your big guns as well as they can hold a shovel handle. This option is probably best for those who only have a shed to work with.
Wall Storage Pegboard or Gun Pegboard
A pegboard is for those who want to put their Nerf gun storage on display. While not our preferred method of storage, a wall mount pegboard keeps your arsenal both tidy and within reach.
If you’re going the gun wall route, we highly recommend that you keep the safety on for all toy blasters being hung. You never know when an unsuspecting tween or an absent-minded grandparent will squeeze a trigger and fire off a few toy foam rounds.
The Fury Strike Pegboard for Nerf Guns is one marketed toward Nerf owners, but any pegboard will do.
Fans of the Rival series can get two pegboards, one for the Red Squad and one for the Blue.
Product Dimensions
The Fury Strike Pegboard mentioned above has these dimensions. The beauty of a Pegboard system is that it is expandable. So as your need to store Nerf guns grows, so too will your pegboard.
- 15.5 (H) x 13.6 (W) x 2 inches (D)
Nerf Storage FAQs
Where can I buy Nerf Gun storage?
Names like Ikea, Home Depot or Costco come to mind, depending on the type of storage rack or box you’re looking for. There’s also Amazon, if you prefer instant checkout and online shopping.
All that said, we’d rather be playing, so we tend to skip Ikea and options that require us to build something.
